Here's a little taster of the work I'm producing for the show.....

My project focuses on the individuals who immigrated to England from the West Indies in 1950s and 1960s.Many of them left their families and friends in search of better education and work in the Motherland (England).

Promises of golden paved streets and equality may not have been a reality, but my project looks at how each member adapted to their situation and went on to create their own legacy and history in the country some of them now regard as home – highlighting the sacrifice and struggles that they overcame.

The series of environmental portraits have been taken in the front room of the individuals house, as in the Afro Caribbean culture this is usually the room which acts like a shrine and holds all the family pictures. It is also rarely used apart from to hold important family meetings.
